I believe you are looking for
[hold]crtl + [tap]tab > hide windows
can cycle through the available windows by tapping tab again... just like alt-tab in windows
although it doesn't do the selective hiding you suggest. "Up and up, how far can we go? and how far must we fall to get there?"

This has changed, try CTRL + F9
Changed since the 5 seconds before I posted having actually checked it?
CTRL + F9 has always been, and still is, "remove all ui" so you can do pretty screenshots. This is not the same as minimize all windows as was requested by OP.

CTRL + F9 was implemented with Dominion. Previous to that you could cycle through with CTRL + Tab to get "remove all UI" for pretty screens.
Ah, I assume you refer to the patch notes of build 117956 (Dominion).
òCtrl+tab changed to no longer be a list, all UI can be hidden with ctrl+F9
You are quite tight, the Ctrl+tab menu used to be in the same format as the r-click in space menu and many others. The first entry in this list was "hide all windows" but this had the same functionality as Ctrl+F9 removing all UI including brackets, NeoCom etc. Effectively there was two ways of getting at the same function.
The changes brought into build 117956 have nothing to do with Ctrl+F9 functionality, the changes are solely on the Ctrl+tab menu. It got a revamped graphic (in line with windows alt+tab design) and "minimize all windows" was added at the end of the list. This removed the redundancy and added the "minimize all windows" functionality.
The only reason that Ctrl+F9 is mentioned in the patch notes for that build is to tell people where to find the functionality that was removed from the ctrl+tab list so we didn't get "bring back hide ui functionality" all over the forums...
Although I do take your point that that patch note doesn't exactly explain the above, but then they are one liners to give people a headsup not a detail design spec or anything and quite long enough at times without adding to them!
As for Ctrl+F9 being new in Dominion... a quick forum search for "ctrl" and "F9" shows entries from at least 2004 onwards telling people how to take prettier screen shots... |
